NGORONGORO CRATER

Famously Known As Africa's Garden Of Eden

Ngorongoro Crater is one of Africa’s best natural wildlife habitats; Ngorongoro Crater is one of the top destinations in the country to come close to the rare black rhinoceros, offering a unique and thrilling opportunity. Ngorongoro is a breathtaking destination that must be experienced to appreciate fully. It is home to the magnificent Big Five. It has been mentioned several times as among the world’s seven natural wonders.

Nearby Empakai Crater is exceptional for hiking, while Oldupai Gorge is home to the Cradle of Mankind. Other attractions within the rims of Ngorongoro Crater include Lake Ndutu (calving ground for the Wildebeest Migration), the active volcano of Ol Doinyo Lengai mountain, and the famed hippo pools. Several accommodation options are available near Ngorongoro Crater, ranging from luxury lodges to budget-friendly campsites, ensuring a comfortable stay for every traveler.

Ngorongoro Crater provides visitors with eye-catching scenery of a deep and majestic volcanic Caldera, the world’s largest unflooded and unbroken caldera. The Crater is a breathtaking natural sensation that covers 12 miles (19 km) across and 102 square miles (264 sq km) of wilderness, a vast and awe-inspiring sight. The rim of the crater landscape is approximately 2,000 feet (610 m) higher than the caldera bottom, with a peak elevation of 7,500 feet (2,286 m).

A volcanic eruption shaped Ngorongoro Crater and its surrounding landscape, creating a caldera that became a wilderness haven. While the area is wild and untamed, safety is a top priority. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority has implemented various safety measures to ensure visitor safety, including trained guides, well-maintained trails, and emergency alert and response systems.

Ngorongoro Crater was officially declared one of the world’s seven natural wonders on February 11th, 2013. It is also famously known as Africa’s Garden of Eden, and it is home to over 30,000 diverse wild animal species, including wildebeests, buffaloes, elephants, lions, cheetahs, and the rare black rhino.

The human presence inside the Ngorongoro crater goes beyond the dawn of history, as proved by the numerous remains of hominids, humankind’s earliest identifiable ancestors. The world’s two well-known pre-historic archaeological sites, Gorge and Laetoli, are inside the Ngorongoro conservation area. The footprints of our remote ancient ancestors, dating back about 3.5 million years, discovered at the Crater, add an intriguing and wondrous layer to your visit.
